From 2009-2014, KIZ pursued 540+ research projects supported by 400+ Million RMB in funding. Typically, financial support for research groups at KIZ is greater than or equal to the levels provided by comparable European or US universities, with special support for promising young scientists and established scientific/technical talent interested in re-locating to China. For example, new Principal Investigators are eligible for startup grants ranging from 1-3 Million RMB to establish their laboratories at KIZ, as well as generous housing allowances and competitive salaries. There are also a large number of competitive merit-based funding from CAS, other branches of the Chinese government, and foreign agencies.
A large number of KIZ projects are funded by several key agencies: the Ministry of Science and Technology of the People’s Republic of China (MOST), National Health and Family Planning Commission of the People’s Republic of China (NHFPC), Ministry of Agriculture of the People’s Republic of China (MOA), the National Nature Science Foundation of China (NSFC), and the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS).
