The new results about phylogenetic relationships of the Chinese Labeoninae
The Labeoninae is a subfamily of the family Cyprinidae, Order Cypriniformes. Except the typical common characters exhibited by the Cyprinidae, Labeoninae achieves the maximal diversity in lips and other structures around mouth among the Cyprinidae fishes. The phylogeny of the subfamily Labeoninae has remained as a controversial topic in years due to the insufficient samples. The early and recen... more
Energy Demand of Animals Influences Selection Pressure on Their Mitochondrial-encoded Proteins
Researchers at the Kunming Institute of Zoology (KIZ)of Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) found that the energy demand of animals influences the selection pressure on their mitochondrial-encoded proteins.
Mitochondria are regarded as the power plant of cells, which play critical roles not only in energy metabolism, but also in thermo-regulation. However, the relative importance of the two r... more
KIZ makes initial progress in satellite tracking of black-necked crane
Migration ecology is one of the most important areas of Ornithology. To some endangered bird species, it is essential to know their migration ecology, i.e. migratory routs, stopover sites, wintering ground, and summer areas.
Black-necked crane is the only crane species live their life on high plateaus. It breeds at high elevations on the Qinghai–Tibetan Plateau,in south-eastern Xinjiang, T... more
A new record of endemic parrotbill in Yunnan: paradoxornis zappeyi
Paradoxornis zappeyi (Muscicapidae, Passeriformes) was first recorded in Yunnan during the joint expedition to Dashanbao Nature Reserve by Bird group of Kunming Institute of Zoology, CAS and Dashanbao Nature Reserve Management Burea. It is an endemic species, whose range is restricted in SC Sichuan and NW Guizhou. This species is fairly rare and Vulnerable in IUCN Red List. The basic informatio... more
First two ant genomes decoded with implication in studies of aging and behavior

An international team of researchers at Arizona State University, BGI-Shenzhen, Kunming Institute of Zoology (KIZ) of Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), New York University School of Medicine, and University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine, reported in this week’s Science the genomes of two ant species:Camponotus floridanusandHarpegnathos saltator.
  C. floridanusandH. saltator have ... more
