2021-08-03

The establishment of the National Resource Center for Non-Human Primates was approved by the Ministry of Science and Technology of the People’s Republic of China and the Ministry of Finance of the People’s Republic of China on June 5, 2019. This Center which was formerly known as the Primate Experimental Animal Center of Kunming Institute of Zoology, is the first primate artificial domestication and breeding center in China, which has made an important contribution to the study of radiation biology of the atomic bomb project in China. It became one of three experimental animal bases of the Chinese Academy of Sciences in 1982. The National Resource Center for Non-Human Primates has established an innovative system for the production, research and utilization of experimental primates. It now has more than 2500 primates of 7 species, including rhesus monkey, crab-eating macaque, Yunnan’s golden monkey, and others. This experimental animal center has assembled the largest variety of primates with defined genetic backgrounds and different ages in China. In 2008, it received the international AAALAC accreditation and became the first experimental animal center approved by China National Accreditation Service for Conformity Assessment. The National Resource Center for Non-Human Primates has carried out primate research on nutrition, reproduction, growth and development, genetic background monitoring, disease prevention, diagnosis and treatment for a long time. At present, it has an important supporting role in major research initiatives for AIDS, Parkinson's disease, COVID-19 pandemic and other diseases.
