The Conservation Genetics Chinese Academy of Sciences Kunming Cell Bank that was established in 1986 is the largest wildlife genetic resource bank in China and has world-wide reputation. At present, the Kunming Cell Bank is a unit of the National Biomedical Cell Resources Bank, Biological Genetic Resources Bank of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and The Germplasm Bank of Wildlife Species. The Kunming Cell Bank preserves 2,298 somatic cell lines from 357 species, most of which are self-established cell lines with independent intellectual property rights and representing animal resources in China. Among them are 57 cell lines from national Class I and Class II protected animals. In addition, more than 300 standardized experimental cell lines have been preserved, which can be used for cell-related experiments and technical services to provide strong support for China's life science research, biotechnology innovation and industrial development.
