2021-08-03

The National Research Facility for Phenotypic and Genetic Analysis of Model Animals (MAF) is supported by the “12th Five-Year” National Major Scientific and Technological Infrastructure Projects of China. KIZ is the leading legal entity involved in the construction and support of facilities for non-human primates. The Facility includes four major units: (1) Primate Production and Breeding System, (2) Primate Phenotype Analysis System, (3) Primate Genetic Analysis System, and (4) Information Processing and Intelligent Automatic Management and Control System. The Primate Facility, encompassing an area of 24,100 ㎡, commenced construction on 27 October 2019 and is expected to be officially put into operation in 2023. The Primate Facility’s focus are studies of non-human primates (NHPs) to delineate the relationship between phenotype and genotype and response to environmental changes, providing a major support platform for treatment of disease, medical research and development, etc. After finishing construction, a world-class and large-scale integrated research facility for full-scale phenotypic and genetic studies of NHPs will be established, which will be able to perform accurate and automatic standardized and large-scale production and breeding of NHPs. The integrated system will ensure that high throughput studies on phenotypic and genetic relationships are performed with continuity and accuracy.
