The Kunming Institute of Zoology (KIZ) is directly affiliated with the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS). Located at the head of the Indo-Burma biodiversity hotspot, KIZ is dedicated to research in the fields of biodiversity, evolution, conservation, and sustainable utilization of resources in southwestern China, Eastern Himalayas, and Southeast Asia.
Since its founding in 1959, KIZ has been committed to exploring the fundamental aspects of the world we live in, with a focus on genetics and evolutionary biology, primate animal models, and human disease mechanisms.Itprovides a fertile environment forscientific innovation and lively interactions and offerscompetitive reward packagesand high-quality training programs for graduate students and postdoctoral fellows. KIZ welcomes applications for postdoctoral fellowships and graduate school placements from interested individuals of all nationalities and ethnicities with an interest in the fields of Zoology, Evolutionary Biology, Ecology, Genetics, Neurobiology, Molecular Biology, and Cell Biology, etc. Applications in the following areas are highly encouraged:
1. High-level pathogenic microorganisms and key biosafety technologies
2. Phenotypic and genotypic analysis of model animals
3. Biodiversity genomics

Positions:
1. Senior Principal Investigator
Qualifications:
Candidates should have made significant contributions in relevant research fields or have an established reputation amongst peers. Research areas of interest should fit the overall research themes of the institute. Candidates should demonstrate a high degree of scientific integrity and a strong interest in collaborative research.
Support:
Approved candidates will receive full support from KIZ to establish a research team and recruit research assistants, postdoctoral fellows, and graduate students. In addition, KIZ will provide excellent research facilities, attractive start-up funds, competitive reward packages, and temporary rental accommodation and housing subsidies, etc.
2. Young Investigator
To support and provide the opportunity for doctoral graduates to fast-track independent research at the early stage of their career, applications are invited for young investigator positions in relevant research fields.
Qualifications:
1) Candidates should have a PhD degree.
2) Candidates should have excellent scholastic achievements and exhibit the potential to develop into an independent scientist.
3) Candidates should demonstrate a strong team spirit and solid research ethics.
Support:
Young investigators will be supported with the resources necessary to establish an independent research program, including start-up funds, salary and benefits, housing subsidy, and lab space. A mentorship committee of three senior investigators will provide guidance in research direction and laboratory management.
3. Postdoctoral Fellows and Graduate Students
KIZ is looking for experienced, ambitious, and self-motivated researchers to join a well-funded research laboratory within a vibrant research community. Experience in Zoology, Genetics, Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, Bioinformatics Analysis, Biostatistics, Ecology, or Evolutionary Biology is particularly desirable.
Qualifications:
1) Candidates should have a PhD degree.
2) Candidates should have the ability to work independently and as a member of a collaborative team and are encouraged to carry out independent research projects.
3) Successful candidates will show commitment to a high standard of research.
