M.Sc programs are typically only available to students from mainland China, Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan, while D.N.Sc programs are open to students of any nationality. Tuition for foreign doctoral students (including those from Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan) is roughly 40,000 RMB per year, not including living expenses, which are quite low in southwestern China. There are several sources of funding available for foreign students through the University of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (UCAS). For more information on these funding options, please see our list of Scholarships & Fellowships.

Doctoral programs at KIZ run from 3-4 years, and lead to a Ph.D. equivalency, Doctorate in Natural Science (D.NSc), in four major fields: Zoology, Neurobiology, Genetics, and Cell Biology. Within these fields, KIZ has more than 30 doctoral supervisors, most of which have substantial international research experience, strong publication records, and good placement of students.

Students interested in pursuing their doctoral education with a particular research group should first contact the relevant Principal Investigator leading the group and then speak with the International Cooperation Officer, Ms. Chunyu Liu, who will help guide students through the admission process of UCAS.
