Dr. YANG Junxing, professor of ichthyology, the Kunming Institute of Zoology, the CAS (KIZ), has accepted the post of Regional Chair to China, IUCN SSC/WI from the Chair Gordon Mc Gregor Reid on November 20, 2012, replacing the late Fang Kullander. Dr. YANG has taken the position with gratitude and he is looking forward to his serving to the Freshwater Fish Specialist Group (FFSG) from 2013 to 2016.
IUCN (International Union for Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources), is the largest and the most important global association of biodiversity protection. Its Species Survival Commission (SSC), which, up to date, has over 700 members, is responsible for the technical consulting of species reservation. In the meantime, the non-profit organization, Wetlands International (WI) is dedicating to the wetland protection and sustainable management.
During his serving duration to UICN, Dr. YANG will help FFSG to continue the freshwater biodiversity protection in China and support the program of wetland biodiversity protection in China. Dr. YANG’s duty will include but not be limited to provide technical support, consultation, and corporate with information propagation and activity coordination.
