March 11, 2013, under the invitation of Prof. ZHOU Jumin (KIZ, the CAS), Dr. HUANG Qihong of the Wistar Institute paid a visit to KIZ and delivered a lecture on “Discovery of Metastasis Genes by a Functional Genomics Approach”.
Dr. HUANG’s research interests include tumor metastasis, novel chemotherapy drug targets identification, and efficacy improvement of current cancer treatments.
In the lecture, Dr. HUANG discussed the screening of miR-373 and miR-520c by the array-format high-throughput technology and their individual roles played in tumor metastasis. Moreover, benefitted by this technology, gene KLF17 was also been indentified as a negative regulator in breast cancer.
According to Huang, these studies will be helpful in finding the new drug targets and chemotherapies that may be effective in the treatment of a broad spectrum of tumors.
