The upcoming year will mark a turning point for several units at the Kunming Institute of Zoology (KIZ), Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS). Alongside switching the institute’s journal, Zoological Research, to English, Kunming Natural History Museum of Zoology will also be providing several new English-language materials to encourage more international visitors. To assist in translating some of the materials from Chinese and composing new English resources, a volunteer from Canada, Chantal Carriere, will be working closely with staff at the museum over the next few months.
Carriere is an active researcher on Canadian-Chinese relations, having interned at the Canadian Consulate to China in Guangzhou and been British Columbia’s finalist for the prestigious Rhodes Scholarship to Oxford. Prior to coming to Kunming, she completed her bachelor’s degree at the University of Northern British Columbia in Prince George, Canada, and now she is studying at Yunnan University to polish her Chinese language skills.
