Earlier this year, the Kunming Natural History Museum of Zoology organized an event on protecting the Asian elephant as part of the “Build a Beautiful China by Protecting Ecological Environments” 2013 National Science Popularization Day. Working jointly with several offices of the Yunnan Provincial Government and the International Wildlife Fund, the museum hosted lectures by popular scientific experts with special exhibits for Children to help explain the importance of wildlife conversation in Yunnan Province and China.
The museum has been an active participant in highlighting the need for ecological conversation throughout Asia, with previous exhibits focusing on the role different animals play in maintaining ecological balance as well as the destruction caused by illegal poaching and harvesting ivory. This current exhibit excellently showed how different organizations are working to advance the protection of endangered animals and support the enforcement of animal protection initiatives.
