On January 15, 2015, the “Tumor markers and antitumor drug research and innovation team” at the Kunming Institute of Zoology underwent a professional evaluation. Deputy Director of the Kunming Institute of Zoology and group leader Dr. Ren Lai reported to an expert panel on the team’s recent activities. He also reviewed the relevant materials, and answered questions after a lively discussion. At the end of the meeting, the group of experts awarded the team the title of "Yunnan Innovation Team" based on the accomplishments of their last three years of work
The innovation team awards are the province’s way of fostering top talent and encouraging ongoing scientific innovation. The awards provide incentive for young scientists to work hard, and promote innovation in science that benefits industry and improves Yunnan’s economic competitiveness. Fostering home-grown innovation has been a key goal of the Yunnan government over the past five years, as the province has become a leading center for China’s ongoing economic development, outpacing Eastern and Southern China in year to year GDP growth.
