Satellite tracking the migration of Black-necked Cranes in Yunnan Province
In order to discover migration routes of middle winter Black-necked Crane population, ornithologists form KIZ will satellite track five cranes in 2008 winter in Napahai Nature Reserve in Northwestern Yunnan Province. To capture cranes, they experiment by setting snap nooses on the lake shore near crane resting sites. On early November, they captured one crane and proved the possibility of capture crane by using this method. After receiving the approval by wildlife management bureau, they will capture cranes and put Platform Transmitter Terminal on these cranes. They hope migration routes, stopover sties, summer and breeding area, and range behavior will be discovered in this research.
