On October 10th, with the topic From Remarkable Rescue to Restoration of Lost Habitat, Science reported the work completed by Professor Yang Junxing and his team in terms of biodiversity conservation and restoration of wetland in Dianchi lake. The pollution treatment of Dianchi lake is one of the most important projects in China. A large number of alien species and environment degradation have sent the indigenous species to extinction and severely devastated ecosystem in Dianchi lake. In 2004, with the financial support from Global Environment Facility and Yunnan Development & Innovation Committee, a pilot project has been initiated to breed indigenous fishes in captivity. In 2007, the golden-line barbels has been successfully reproduced. Furthermore, an experimental pond for biodiversity restoration in the southern Dianchi has been constructed, and the main restoration pattern of“golden-line barbels, Ottelia (Ottelia acuminata) and mussels (Anodonta woodiana)”has been reconstituted, giving the priority of rebooting indigenous fishes, which has achieved sound effect and economic profit.
In the report, the writer has confirmed the work completed by Professor Yang’s team, and suggested that the pattern of “golden-line barbels, Ottelia and mussels”might be the promising solution to restore the ecosystem of Dianchi lake.
