Chen Luonan  Ph.D.  Dr. Chen was recipient of CAS-NN Great Wall Professorship Award (2009). He was the chief scientist of National Key R&D Program of China “Systems Biology Study on the tipping point during lung cancer progression”.

Research Interest    

My research interests are on computational systems biology or network biology, in particular, focusing on the two aspects of biological systems, i.e., network and dynamics, which are considered as the core parts of systems biology. Specifically, I aim to elucidate the molecular mechanisms of nonlinear biological phenomena at the network level by developing novel methodologies or framework of systems biology with the emphasis on the data-driven approaches. Currently, based on our theoretical methods and results, I am working on the topics, 1. detect the tipping point or critical state as well as its key molecular network during a biological process; 2. analyze dynamical networks for cell fate decision and also network-driver identification of lung cancer; and 3. develop eGPS (nonlinear evolutionary framework) and apply to the analyses of complex traits for rats and dogs at different sea-levels.

From the computational viewpoint, the great challenge is how to obtain reliable and also dynamical information of biological systems by integrating the heterogeneous biological data with high dimensions but small sample size, which is my major research area and is also one key to revealing molecular mechanisms and achieve real precision medicine.
