New Progress in Insect Natural Medicine Functional Proteomics
In traditional Eastern medicine, horseflies are used as anti-thrombosis material for hundreds of years. In recent years, the research team led by Prof. Lai Ren from Kunming Institute of Zoology,
Chinese Academy of Sciences has identified several families of proteins or peptides with pharmacological activities from the horsefly Tabanus yao Macquart(MCP 2008, 7:582-90; MCP 2009, 8:2071-9; Dev... more
PAR4 Expression Found to Decrease in Human Gastric Cancer
Gastric cancer remains one of the major diseases plaguing people’s health in China as is evidenced by 400,000 affected people every year, accounting for 40% of world’s total number. The death rate in China is 4-8 times higher than developed countries. Although much work has been done to study the molecular mechanism underlying the progression of gastric cancer, it is still not sufficient.

Egocentric Spatial Reference Frame Used in Dorsal–Lateral Prefrontal Working Memory in Primates
“The dorsal–lateral prefrontal cortex (dlPFC) is related to the processing of information regarding the “self”, which might be the neural basis for human to exert self consciousness”, suggested the research team of Kunming Institute of Zoology, Chinese Academy of Sciences (KIZ, CAS).
The prefrontal cortex (PFC), anterior part of the frontal lobes in primates, reaches its phylogenetic p... more
Research achievement of 2010
For Kunming Institute of Zoology (KIZ-CAS) , 2010 was a year worth celebration. During 2010, KIZ has gotten 72 academic projects, including National Natural Science Foundation of China, National Key Basic Research Program, National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars, Key Programs for Science and Technology Development of China, Fond for Outstanding Scholars of Yunnan Province, value ... more
Correlated Evolution among Six Gene Families in Drosophila Revealed by Parallel Change of Gene Numbers
Correlated evolution is commonly observed when traits are functionally related. It is hypothesized that proteins involved in a pathway are likely to evolve in a correlated fashion, and coevolving gene families tend to undergo complementary gains and losses. Accordingly, gene copy numbers tend to show parallel changes during the evolution of coevolving gene families.
To test and verify this ... more
