Research achievement of 2010
For Kunming Institute of Zoology (KIZ-CAS) , 2010 was a year worth celebration. During 2010, KIZ has gotten 72 academic projects, including National Natural Science Foundation of China, National Key Basic Research Program, National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars, Key Programs for Science and Technology Development of China, Fond for Outstanding Scholars of Yunnan Province, value ... more
Correlated Evolution among Six Gene Families in Drosophila Revealed by Parallel Change of Gene Numbers
Correlated evolution is commonly observed when traits are functionally related. It is hypothesized that proteins involved in a pathway are likely to evolve in a correlated fashion, and coevolving gene families tend to undergo complementary gains and losses. Accordingly, gene copy numbers tend to show parallel changes during the evolution of coevolving gene families.
To test and verify this ... more
Phylogenetic Relationships among Mustelidae Subfamilies Clarified
Mustelidae, as the largest and most-diverse family of order Carnivora, comprises eight subfamilies. Phylogenetic relationships among these Mustelidae subfamilies remain argumentative subjects in recent years due to Mustelids’ rapid evolutionary radiation and recent speciation.
In order to clarify Mustelidae subfamilies’ phylogenetic relationships, the research group headed by academician ... more
Great Progress in the Research of Using Odorranalectin as Drug Delivery System
Lectins, which can specifically recognize sugar molecules and bind the glycosylated nasal mucosa, have been introduced into bioadhesive delivery systems to improve drug absorption on nasal mucosa. Odorranalectin (OL), with a molecular weight of only 1700 Da, was recently identified as the smallest lectin with much less immunogenicity than other members of the lectin family by the research team ... more
Activation of Protease-activated Receptor (PAR) 1 by Frog Trefoil Factor (TFF) 2 and PAR4 by Human TFF2.

Mucosa is the body’s first barrier with the outside world. People alway take a large number of alcohol, pepper and other stimuli, or long-term use of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory analgesic drugs (such as aspirin), that can cause stomach pain, diarrhea and mouth sores and other symptoms of the disease. That is because the gastrointestinal mucosal hurt. Vertebrates are widely distributed... more
