Tracking Ancient History of the Himalaya From the Evolution of Hundreds of Frogs, Lizards and Snakes

The Himalaya are among the youngest and highest mountains in the world, but the exact timing of their uplift and origins of their biodiversity are still in debate. Generally, there are two hypotheses about the uplift process of the Himalaya. A “Stepwise Hypothesis” was proposed recently, which suggested that the Himalaya rose slowly from 1,000–2,500 m during the period of 56–23 Ma (mil... more
New Bird Genomes Give Gnsight into Evolution of Genomic Diversity

A research consortium led by Prof. ZHANG Guojie from Kunming Institute of Zoology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences reported the genomes of for 363 bird species including 267 new genomes and illustrated how these resources give improved resolution on genomic evolution analyses. The finding was published in Nature on 12th November as cover story.
The Bird 10,000 Genome Project (B10K), ... more
Researchers Revealed that Filia Regulates Genomic Stability and Neurogenesis of Postnatal Hippocampal Neural Stem/Progenitor Cells

A research team led by Prof. ZHENG Ping from Kunming Institute of Zoology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, collaborating with the Prof. MENG Feilong from Shanghai Institute of Biochemistry and Cell Biology, Center for Excellence in Molecular Cell Science, provided the first proof of concept demonstrating the region-specific regulations of DSB formation and repair in subtypes of NSPCs. The fin... more
Researchers Illustrate Multiple Functional Variations Correlated with the Heritable Risk of Schizophrenia

Complex psychiatric illnesses, such as schizophrenia, are bringing significant threat to public well-being, yet clinical diagnosis and management of these illnesses remain less successful due to a lack of knowledge of their pathogenesis. Recent genome-wide association studies (GWAS) have identified numerous non-coding variations significantly associated with schizophrenia, but the potentia... more
Researchers found the tropical Bos gaurus and Dicerorhinus sumatrensis inhabit in Tibet Plateau ~5,200 years ago

A research team led by Prof. SU Bing from Kunming Institute of Zoology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, collaborating with the researchers from Lanzhou University and Northwest Agriculture and Forestry University, performed aDNA investigation on approximately 5,200-years-old bovid and rhinoceros specimens from the Shannashuzha (SNSZ) site, and revealed that the tropical Bos gaurus and D... more
